After retiring from the pastorate in 2012, Linda and I had six years to prepare for the time in which she would become a resident in the Memory Care Unit at Legacy Village in Cleveland, Tennessee. We spent a significant amount of that time in developing a more intimate relationship with Christ, defining the core values of our lives and prayerfully interceding for our children, grandchildren, and descendants who were yet to be born.

At the center of our pursuit was a wonderful truth: For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17 NIV). We persistently prayed that as long as we lived on this earth our lives might manifest the marks of the Kingdom: righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Further, that our descendants might be known for those spiritual values long after we have gone.

Linda became a resident at Legacy Village on October 1, 2018 and went home to be with her Lord on May 23, 2023. As the lights of this world grew dimmer for Linda, the lights of Heaven grew increasingly brighter; she talked often of wanting to go live with Jesus.

During this long ordeal, two things became very clear to me: My academic background was being greatly enhanced by on-the-job training, and secondly, God was preparing me to serve families going through similar situations. In January 2024, I became the Director of Alzheimer’s Support Services for Legacy Senior Living & Dominion Senior Living.
